Maria CARTAS studied at the Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies, Faculty of International Economic Relations (Foreign Trade Faculty at that time), between the years 1962 – 1967. In 1983 she obtained her Ph.D. degree in International Economic Relations.
Since 1967 Maria CARTAS has been working as scientific researcher within The Institute for World Economy, Bucharest, Romania. In 1990, she became Senior Scientific Researcher I, head of the Department for Market Studies, and since 2015 she has been working within the Department for the New International Economic Order. All along, she carried out research programs (coordinator and author) and wrote studies, articles, scientific papers on various topics, from global problems (GATT, WTO, UNCTAD, transnational companies to foreign market research: commodities as well as engineering products). She is in charge of commodity markets, coordinating market studies as well as market and price trends reports on a weekly basis as well as bi – and annual reports, as follows: weekly price synthesis „Trends and prospects on the main international markets for commodities and currencies ”; The Commodity Markets Section, Part II of IWE annual publication „World Economy Outlook”, 2011-2016 ; The Commodity Markets Section, Part II, IWE weekly bulletin „International Market ”; be-weekly „Bulletin on prices and quotations”.
Maria CARTAS has been, since 1994, Associate Professor within the International Economic Relations Faculty of the Academy of Economic Studies of Bucharest. She has been a member of The National Council for the Attestation of Academic Titles, Diplomas and Certificates (CNATDCU), Special Commission no. 17 for International Economics and Business, during 2006-2011 (Romanian Official Gazette, PI, no. 449/24.V.2006). She also has been nominated as member – specialist reviewer in over 180 Commissions for PhD Thesis Defense (1997-2016, Academy of Economic Studies, Bucharest, the University of Craiova, FEAA, and The National Institute for Economic Research, Bucharest). Maria CARTAS was invited, this autumn, to peer review articles, by the Premier Publishers, www.premierpublishers.org, and SCIENCEDOMAIN international, www. sciencedomain.org, and was granted reviewer certificate.
