Emilia Mary Bălan is a PhD graduate from the West University of Timisoara and a senior researcher at The Institute for World Economy (IWE), where she has worked since 2000. In addition, she has a bachelor’s degree in economic engineering from the Faculty of Engineering and Management of Technological Systems, ‘Politehnica’ University of Bucharest.
Over the years, she focused on industry market research (tin, aluminium) research, and since 2005, her prior experience also includes the agricultural market. In addition, she has participated in many national and international conferences with presentations in her expertise field. She has been involved in some national projects, the most important being studying horizontal industries development (RELANSIN).
Her scientific research areas included studies on electric energy, international trade of goods, economic convergence, natural disasters and their impact on European economies, etc.
During 2014 – 2015, Emilia Mary Bălan was a member of the “Doctoral and Postdoctoral Studies Horizon 2020 Promoting National Interest through Excellence Competitiveness and Commitment in Romanian Fundamental and Applied Scientific Research” project team, carried out by the IWE.
Since 2016, she has been part of a coordinated team of the IWE weekly bulletin ‘International Market’ and the quarterly journal ‘The Impact of Socioeconomic and Technological Transformations at the National, European, and international level’. Frequently, she analyses the market and has published many articles in IWE journals.
